Match rules
Shortened match format
- Sets are first to 4 games, win by 2. Traditional Ad scoring.
- At 4–4, play a 7-point tiebreak (win by 2).
- Best 2 out of 3 sets.
- Tied one set each? A 10-point match tiebreak (win by 2) stands in for a full third set.
45-minute time limit
- After the optional 5-minute warm-up, set a timer for 45 minutes.
- If the second set isn't done at 45 minutes, finish the current game, then:
- Ahead by 2+ games (e.g. 3–1): that team wins the set.
- Tied or ahead by 1: play a 7-point tiebreak to finish the set.
- Now one set each: play the 10-point match tiebreak.
60-minute sudden death
- Still not decided when your 60-minute court reservation ends? Play one sudden-death point. Whoever wins it takes the match.
Home team responsibilities
- In the week before the match, the home captain or co-captain contacts the away team to confirm the time works for both.
- Bring a (preferably new) can of balls.
- Set timers for the 5-minute warm-up (optional), the 45-minute match, and the end of your court time.
On-court etiquette & scoring
- Warm-up: 5 minutes max. Please arrive ready to play.
- Line calls: the opposing team calls a ball out, don't call your own out. If any part of the ball touches the line, it's IN. If you're not 100% sure it's out, it's IN. When in doubt, give your opponent the benefit of the doubt.
- Score reporting: report the full match score, including the games in each set, on the Score Reporting Form. Example: 4–1, 3–4.

Brand new to tennis? I put together a short playlist I really recommend watching before your match, especially the videos on scoring and how tiebreaks work. At the very least, make sure one of you knows how to keep score.
Serving is the hardest part when you're starting out, so don't stress about technique. Just do whatever you need to do to get it in the service box, even if that means an underhand or "pancake" serve. As long as the ball doesn't bounce before it reaches the box, it's legal.
